There are 22.6 million homes in the UK of which 5 million don’t have any form of home insurance.
The average home has contents worth in excess of £35,000 and the most common claim is for water damage, accounting for 28% of claims in 2017!
There are various things you can do to protect yourself against claims. If your home or rental property is unoccupied for a period of time, make sure your gas and electric is disconnected and any water is drained from the pipes.
You also should make sure your bathroom grouting, silicone and seals have not perished as should you suffer water damage through lack of maintenance, your insurers would not look to cover this meaning you could be left with a hefty bill to get your property repaired!
Is your boiler regularly serviced? With the cold weather fast approaching, you may not have had this switched on so be sure before you do, get it serviced to avoid any potential issues which could result in damage to your property.
Check the exterior of your property for any damage to the roof, that your guttering’s are clear and that any drains are unblocked.
Most importantly check your property insurance cover – ensure that the above are covered!
